Warehouse Storage Solution Overview:
Costing £23 million, the new state-of-the-art facility adjoins Delamode International Logistics Ltd’s existing hub and has doubled operational capacity at the logistics centre. The warehouse has been designed to BREEAM ‘excellent’ sustainability standard and will eventually feature a solar panel installation which will more than double the existing solar power generated on the port.
Following months of intense planning and discussion, Linear provided a design to fit out the new distribution centre with Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) pallet storage and a two-tier mezzanine floor. The VNA racking provides full access to 30,000 pallet locations. VNA pallet racking requires the use of specialist materials handling equipment trucks that are guided by wire. The mezzanine provides an additional 1750sqm of floor space over 2 levels, complete with fire rating, 6 pallet gates and ground-level barrier protection.
Cutting time, costs and carbon
The new logistics centre will enable Delamode International Logistics Ltd to hold stock under bond for order processing and distribution across the UK, continental Europe and global markets. The facility’s close proximity to the container port ensures the best route to market removing the need to transport containers inland to distribution centres cutting time, cost and carbon from supply chains.
Linear Storage have completed three large racking installation projects for me over the past 10 years, at three different warehouse locations totalling some 75,000 pallet positions and have also provided many other handling requirements from Troax shelving to barriers and column protectors.
The most recent racking project was a 30,000 pallet VNA solution, in a newly built 200,000 sq ft warehouse extension at our strategic Port of Southampton location. The installation included 550 P&D stations and in addition to the racking elements, an 18,000 sq ft two tier mezzanine was also designed and installed in a very tight operational window of just 12 weeks before the peak period of 2021.
